We are delighted to announce a groundbreaking decision to eliminate the 5% co-investment charge for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)! This marks a significant step in our commitment to supporting young people as they embark on their professional journeys. By fully subsidising training costs for all eligible apprentices under 25, we are unlocking thousands of incredible opportunities for young people. This initiative not only eases the financial burden on businesses, allowing them to confidently recruit and nurture fresh talent, but it also creates an enriching environment for the growth of youthful skills and innovative ideas.

Moreover, we are pleased to share that, starting in April 2026, businesses will have even greater flexibility with the introduction of an impressive range of short courses tailored to meet the needs of our rapidly evolving industries. These courses will delve into advanced topics such as artificial intelligence (AI), engineering, and key digital skills. They are specifically designed to equip both new hires and existing employees with essential competencies to thrive in today’s dynamic job market and to prepare for future challenges.

We also have plans to broaden access to foundation apprenticeships in vital sectors such as hospitality and retail. By enhancing educational opportunities in these fields, we are opening the door for aspiring professionals to gain practical experience and develop the essential skills they need to succeed.

These comprehensive reforms are set to modernise and streamline the apprenticeship system, transforming it into a responsive and efficient framework that meets the diverse needs of both employers and learners. With the launch of these flexible short courses and a new Level 4 apprenticeship in AI beginning in April 2026, we are committed to ensuring that employers are well-prepared to foster the next generation of skilled professionals. Together, we are promoting growth and innovation not just within organisations, but across the entire economy. Let us embrace this exciting journey ahead!
